Comparison : 419 (Fraud)

                      Galatians 6 vs 4-5

“But each one must carefully scrutinize his own work [examining his actions, attitudes, and behavior], and then he can have the personal satisfaction and inner joy of doing something commendable without comparing himself to another. For every person will have to bear [with patience] his own burden [of faults and shortcomings for which he alone is responsible].”

I drafted this post last year September but I never posted it 🤔, I guess it wasn’t time. It wasn’t necessarily an easy post to write if I’m honest because having struggled and still struggle with comparison occasionally, it seemed a bit too personal to share, but then one of the main reasons I started blogging was to use my struggles/experience to encourage people whilst keeping it 💯.
Comparison is a major struggle in this day and age with social media especially it’s quite difficult to avoid it 😪. I see posts with “deep quotes” about not comparing your self all the time and I’m like urm okay but what are the practical steps to avoid it ?? It causes soo much bitterness, hate and also it robs you of your joy/happiness. So today I’m sharing my take on comparison and how to deal with it.

  1. Admit that you are struggling with comparison.

If you can be honest with yourself about it, then half the battle has already been won. The enemy loves to feed on secrets, the more you hide it the more you become bitter towards people and yourself. Also after a while you start to justify it which can become a very big problem.

    2. Address the root of comparison

So in other words where exactly has it stemmed from? It doesn’t just pop out of no where, there must have been a thought process to it. Not going too deep into it but it can stem from a lot of things/issues for example, lack of identity, not knowing your purpose in life,  or sometimes if you were constantly compared to your sibling or anyone else growing up. These things are seeds for comparison and also the obvious one Social media, you see someone’s “online life” and then you start to compare yourself to that person maybe it’s time to unfollow certain people/celebs till you are okay with yourself.

     3. Guard your heart

How much time do you spend on social media comparing yourself to someone else? Who are you listening to? Who are you allowing to speak over your life? what/who are you associating yourself with? Because believe it or not they all play a role in comparison, the bible instructs us to “Guard our hearts at all cost because from it flows the issues of life” (Proverbs 4 vs 24).

4. Know who you are and your purpose.

If you don’t know who you are, you will start to fumble big time. You will be attracted to what everyone else is doing, you will never be happy with anything that you do because really and truly you don’t know yourself. Your purpose is linked to who you are, understanding why you are here will help you stay in your own lane.Identifying  your purpose will help you not be intimidated by someone else who’s also trying to figure out their own purpose. In that place where you are finding your identity in Christ is where you will find your purpose.

5. A heart of Thanksgiving.

This will really change your outlook on life, try this everyday; find one thing to be grateful for each day or actually note it down and at the end of the week go over it. Comparison will never allow you to be grateful for anything even if God gives you the world.

In conclusion, make the necessary changes this week and trust me there will definitely be a change.

Thanks for stopping by 💙🙏🏾.

  1. I love this post Jennifer, especially the point about knowing who you are. Once I found my identity in Christ, it became easier to stop comparing myself to others. When Satan tries to lie to me and I’m about to start comparing, I just slap him in the face with a scripture and he shuts up lmaoo. You can never be anyone else, God did not even try to create us to be the same. The same way you are envious of someone else is the way someone is envious of you.
